Living a life of simplicity during my adolescence and adult years and even now that I am already old, I found out that my facial skin has dried a lot. Thanks to my daughter who suggested that I should use facial moisturizer. So I looked for one in the supermarket and now I’m using “Myra-E” facial moisturizer, an effective moisturizing product without the greasy feel. I use it at night after I clean my face with soap and water. Using it for almost six months, I found out that my skin is not dry anymore. So I recommended it to my husband who had the same skin problem as mine. Thanks to my daughter and thanks Myra-E.

Pag-asa, the Philippine eagle who was the first human-induced embryo and brought up in captivity celebrates its 18th birthday yesterday. The Philippine eagle is considered to be the tallest, rarest and powerful bird. It is sometimes called “Harribon” which means “Bird King”. The voice of the bird is loud and sometimes let out whistle that is very high in pitch. They can be found in four major islands in the Philippines. In celebration of Pag-asa’s birthday, a forum on climate change will be held to be attended by students and tree planting. The Philippine Eagle is the national bird of the Philippines because of its size and rarity.

Thanks to my officemate from whom I recently learned another alternative recipe for cooking cardaba or saba bananas as well as ripe jackfruit or nangka. Simply remove the banana or jackfruit from their “skins” and cut or shred to desired sizes and cook with water and sugar until syrup is created. Then, add a little amount of salt to taste. Ordinarily, people only add sugar in cooking bananas or jackfruit. What’s different with this recipe is the salt that neutralizes the sweetness of the fruits and the sugar. Just another simple cooking but with a perfect taste. It doesn’t have to be expensive to be luxurious.

We have been using ordinary cooking oil at home until my mother had her second stroke and was half-body paralyzed last 2005. Right after the incident, I took charge of all the household chores including cooking. And, I was so paranoid that I didn’t use any kind of cooking oil for our meals. However, after some consultations with my uncle who is a doctor, he recommended corn oil as an alternative cooking oil. It is advisable for hypertensive patients especially those who have high cholesterol levels like my mom. It’s a little more expensive compared to ordinary cooking oil, but a lot less expensive than olive oil, so it’s worth it.

Haven’t you ever wondered why our hair looks so great after we get a haircut or get our hair fixed at the parlor? Well, it took me almost 30 years to realize that. After some experiments done on my hair, I found out that only the hair blower-iron match is the key to a straight hair with body. After bath, simply dry your hair with a towel. Comb your hair, and use the blower and the brush to dry and give full body to your hair. Then, make use of the straightening iron to create a shiny, smooth, and straight look for your hair. A hairstylist also gave me a tip to use only a little amount of conditioner or none at all if you intend to create special styles for your body during special occasions.

During the recent holidays where I have attended several parties and gatherings, my friends and relatives were so amazed with how my skin grew fairer. They were so curious with how I got such a fair and light complexion. I’m not naturally a dark-skinned person but also not that fair-skinned as I look now. They kept on asking me what’s my secret, but I wasn’t quite sure which product gave me that noticeable skin transformation. Until I realized that such change only started when I used the Kojic Acid Soap for my body. I got no idea how the soap scientifically did it but all I know and believe in is that it is really an effective lightening product without any harsh and adverse effects on my skin. So I keep on using it until now.

After a series of talks and concessions made, the Pacquiao-Mayweather boxing bout supposedly this coming March will no longer push through. Is Mayweather afraid of Pacquiao? With all of Mayweather’s demands that seemed to be more of an “excuse”, this question has been lingering in the minds of Filipinos. “Mayweather afraid of Manny” is the consensus of those who tried to save the fight of the century. He is such a coward and not keen on fighting Pacquiao. He has so many demands so that the fight will not be realized. The undefeated fighter might regret losing the chance of earning millions of dollars or maybe earning the world’s praises if ever he wins against the Filipino boxer.

To lessen the need for dissections which have become a controversy in schools, Japanese researchers tried to find ways to produce see-through goldfishes. Finally, they have succeeded in producing them. Students can now see the beating heart and other organs of the fish through its translucent scales and skin which have no pigments. There’s no need for opening the fish’s body as you can already see the small brain above the eyes. These were produced by picking mutant hatchery goldfish with pale skin. They brought them together to breed. What an innovation indeed. With this, schools do away from the controversies on dissection, as well as the hustles and inconvenience it brought.

Last year, an international recognition was given to a Filipino teacher named Efren Penaflorida. He brings education to the poorest of the poor in his own creative way. He struggled hard to become a licensed teacher and help those who cannot afford education. He used a pushcart filled with learning materials, and together with some volunteers, they go to places where poor children abound and teach them how to read and write using the available resources. Because of this, Penaflorida led the way of innovation in education. He truly deserves to be hailed as the CNN “Hero of the Year”.

I’ve been hearing all about mineral powders. And I tried to search on how it could be so different from the normal powders. As I researched about it, I found out that mineral powders have become ubiquitous in the past year. It is made from finely crushed, high pigmented minerals, and these products have proven beneficial to women with most sensitive skin. Normally, powders are made from talc which can clogged pores and cause break-outs. On the other hand, mineral powders use zinc and titanium oxide which help retain moisture while containing non-comedogenic properties. I would love to have one, if I could just find a brand that would fit my skin’s sensitivity .
